“CLOUDs” and “TROPICAL”

by Maxwell McMaster

As a follow up to his solo show “Flowers” shown in 2020 at Chins Gallery.  The two collections of paintings “Clouds” and “Tropical” are explorative ventures.  Both of which seek to create unique and compelling variations on a theme.

In the first series “Clouds” the artist depicts clouds in both an abstract and representative fashion.  The artworks depict clouds as natural wonders,  symbols of transience, and a metaphor for the ever-changing nature of life as well as a representation of the celestial realm.

In the second series “Tropical” Maxwell visualizes pristine dreamlike landscapes that evoke the inimitable ambience of a tropical island on a perfect day.  His use of color and layering create both depth and form using flat graphic shapes.

The two series of works work together speaking to the duality of life.  Such as in the expression “no rain no flowers” in life all real growth comes from the lessons we learn by living it.  Without the storms in our life how can we appreciate the good times.  The works found in these collections seek to illuminate the beauty found in both the good and the bad times.

Maxwell McMaster was born in Sacramento California and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. His work typically takes inspiration from his native state. Maxwell uses color shape and texture to enhance and deepen scenes from his travels and everyday life. The result is typically abstract and minimal in design but somehow complex in appearance. The images invite the viewer to reflect on life, and its mysteries while reminding us of the beauty in it.

Exhibition Date: 17/02/2023 - 12/03/2023
Opening Hours: Thurs - Sun, 12.00 - 18.00

(Previous)“Flowers”

by Maxwell McMaster

For his Thailand debut, artist Maxwell McMaster depicts a botanical wonderland.  Flowers is an exploration of a floral theme incorporating image, symbol, aesthetic object, and idea.  McMaster has created paintings, drawings, and photographs that showcase flowers in a number of different environments imagined, implied, and real.  The theme permits an abundant exploration in composition, technique, and aesthetic.  In each instance, McMaster generates a unique interpretation.  The result is a visually stimulating escapade into the beauty and wonder of a subject, one that has captivated the imagination of artists since the dawn of civilization.
